Flip the food system. Australia does not have food security, it’s an illusion from not accounting for the full impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss locked in to current industrial food systems.
Imagine if all 3 levels of government, farmers, fishers, horticulturalists, local communities, public nutrition and the health system, agricultural research, schools and THEN food processing and food retail were highly aligned and resourced to invest in local food bowls. Food bowls could prioritized climate mitigation and climate adaptation for a post 2C world, water for food, biodiversity for food including soil health, pollinative capacity, local public nutrition, remnant native vegetation and threatened species and ecological communities, carbon sequestration, agroecology – with an exportable premium food surplus.
Imagine that Nexus …. nature, climate, water, people, food, health … sounds logical, right?
